Bengaluru: The Karnataka government has once again rolled out a 50% discount on pending traffic fines, giving vehicle owners a final opportunity to settle long-pending violation dues at half the original amount. The Transport Department has formally issued an order stating that the concession will be valid till December 12.
The order, signed by Rangappa Karigar, Under Secretary, Transport Department, comes after the government examined a proposal submitted by the department recommending another round of fine waivers. The scheme is now officially active across the state.
Motorists Can Clear Cases at Half the Fine Amount
During this window, vehicle owners can pay only 50% of the total pending fine to close their traffic violation cases. Officials noted that the previous discount scheme generated hundreds of crores in revenue for the state, which encouraged the government to reintroduce the offer.
Where Can You Pay the Discounted Fine?
Traffic police have clarified that citizens can use multiple platforms and centres to avail of the discount:
In Bengaluru:
- Traffic Police Stations
- Traffic Management Centre (TMC)
- Karnataka One Centres
- Bengaluru One Centres
- Official websites: Kannada One / Karnataka One portals
- Mobile Apps: Karnataka State Police App (KSP App), BTP App, and ASTR platform
In Districts:
Citizens can visit their nearest police station and pay the discounted fines in person.
Online payments will reflect automatically against the vehicle’s pending violations.
Why the Discount Was Reintroduced
For years, motorists across Karnataka have accumulated hundreds of crores in unpaid traffic fines. In 2023, after a joint review by the Transport Department and the Karnataka State Legal Services Authority, a 50% waiver was announced for the first time.
That move resulted in over ₹120 crore being collected during the initial phase, with subsequent extensions also seeing high participation. Encouraged by the response, the government has now revived the scheme for a limited period.
Final Chance Before Deadline
Officials have urged citizens to use the opportunity before the December 12 deadline, warning that no further extensions are guaranteed.
