Bengaluru, July 5: An Air India pilot collapsed in the cockpit just moments before operating flight AI2414 from Bengaluru to Delhi on Friday morning, prompting an immediate medical response and a delay in the flight’s departure, airline sources said.
The incident occurred while the pilot was preparing to sign the mandatory technical logbook before accepting the aircraft for flight operations. Air India, in an official statement, confirmed the occurrence of a “medical emergency” involving the pilot on July 4.
“There was a medical emergency involving one of our pilots in the early hours of July 4. As a result, the pilot was unable to operate the flight AI2414 from Bengaluru to Delhi, and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital,” the statement read.
Sources noted that the pilot collapsed while seated inside the cockpit, causing alarm among crew members. The pilot is reported to be stable, though still under medical supervision.
Due to the emergency, flight AI2414 was delayed but later operated by an alternate pilot, the airline added.
“Our immediate priority is to support the pilot and his family, and ensure his swift recovery,” Air India said, assuring that the situation was handled with utmost care and urgency.
