Bengaluru: Amid criticism from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Monday confirmed that he will be travelling to Davos on Tuesday to attend the World Economic Forum (WEF).
Responding to questions from reporters about his overseas visit, Shivakumar said he has received the necessary approval from Delhi for the travel and has also kept Chief Minister Siddaramaiah informed about his Davos visit.
“Yes, I am travelling to Davos tomorrow. I have received approval from Delhi, and our leader Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has also been informed about my travel,” the Deputy Chief Minister said.
Hitting back at political criticism, Shivakumar added that even leaders from the Opposition had suggested that he attend the global economic summit.
“Our Opposition leaders are also suggesting that I travel to Davos. Should I not accept their suggestion when it is in the interest of the State?” he asked.
The Deputy Chief Minister’s visit to Davos comes at a time when the Karnataka government is focusing on attracting global investments, promoting the State as a preferred destination for industries, infrastructure projects, and technology partnerships.
The World Economic Forum at Davos is expected to see participation from global political leaders, corporate heads, investors, and policymakers, providing Karnataka an opportunity to showcase its economic potential on an international platform.
