Bengaluru: In a shocking late-night crime, an auto driver was stabbed to death outside his own house in the KP Agrahara police station limits of Bengaluru. The victim has been identified as Rachanna (27), a native of Kollegal taluk in Chamarajanagar district.
According to police sources, the incident occurred around 11:40 pm. Rachanna had reportedly consumed alcohol at a nearby bar and returned home late at night. After briefly entering his house, he stepped outside again, during which an unidentified assailant stabbed him in the back and fled the scene.
Critically injured, Rachanna collapsed outside his house. However, neighbours allegedly mistook him for someone who had passed out after drinking and did not intervene. It was only after one to two hours that locals checked on him and discovered that he had died due to excessive bleeding.
Following information from residents, KP Agrahara police rushed to the spot, conducted an inspection, and registered a murder case. Preliminary investigation confirms that stab injuries to the back caused his death.
Police stated that Rachanna was working as an auto driver in Bengaluru and was living alone in a modest rented house. There is no immediate clarity on the motive behind the murder, and investigators are probing all possible angles, including whether the attack followed a dispute at the bar.
Authorities are examining CCTV footage, call records, and the victim’s last movements to identify the attacker. Police said further details will emerge as the investigation progresses.
The incident has triggered concern among residents, as the murder took place right outside a residential home in the city, raising questions about late-night safety.
