Gaurav Gupta expresses satisfaction at collection of Rs 1,563.78 crore in property tax in 3 months of current fisc
BENGALURU:
To boost its revenues, BBMP has decided to conduct a ‘Khata Mela’ in all its eight zones in Bengaluru.
BBMP Chief Commissioner Gaurav Gupta announced the plan at a review meeting on Monday with revenue officials. He expressed happiness over the collection of Rs 1,563.78 crore in property tax in the first three months of the current financial year.
According to Gupta, the objective of the ‘Khata Mela’ should be to bring more properties in the property tax net. With Covid cases declining in the city, revenue officers should pay more attention to property tax collection. Newly constructed buildings should be bought under the property tax net, he said.
He said revenue officials should disseminate information on the extension of the 5% rebate on full payment of property tax to June 30.

‘Go after defaulters’
Special Commissioner (Revenue) Basavaraj instructed officials to issue demand notices to property tax defaulters and collect property tax promptly. The property tax target set for the year must be reached, he added.
BBMP Joint Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners, Revenue Officers, Assistant Revenue Officers and other officials were present at the review meeting.
