Belagavi: Tension gripped Ainapur village in Kagawad taluk, Belagavi district, after Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal activists set a truck ablaze on Monday night, alleging it was illegally transporting beef.
According to police, the incident occurred when four trucks were moving from Kudachi town towards Hyderabad. Activists intercepted one vehicle, KA-71-2045, and claimed to have found a large quantity of beef inside. In anger, they torched the truck along with the seized meat.
The situation quickly escalated into high drama and unrest at the spot. Athani DySP and Kagawad police rushed to the scene, taking two persons from the truck into custody for questioning.
The fire and emergency services team arrived promptly and doused the blaze, preventing it from spreading further. Police have launched a detailed investigation into the alleged beef smuggling and arson, while maintaining heavy security in the area to prevent further clashes.
