Bengaluru: A tragic road accident in Bengaluru’s Kamakshipalya claimed three lives after a speeding container truck lost control and rammed into an auto-rickshaw, crushing it completely. The deceased include the auto driver and two passengers, all of whom died on the spot due to the severe impact.
According to eyewitnesses, the container’s steering failed, causing the heavy vehicle to veer off its path, first hitting a car and then crashing into the auto before colliding with an under-construction building. The impact left the auto mangled beyond recognition, with its passengers trapped inside. “It was so badly damaged that it was hard to even identify it as an auto,” said a bystander.

A private car also suffered major front-end damage in the collision. Fortunately, the car’s occupants escaped with minor injuries. Eyewitnesses recounted how the truck sped uncontrollably down the road, hitting vehicles in its path within seconds. “There was no time to react. The truck rammed into the auto directly. The speed was uncontrollable,” another witness recalled.
Police confirmed that the fatal crash occurred due to a suspected brake failure or steering lock. The victims’ bodies have been sent for postmortem and an FIR has been registered. Investigations are underway to ascertain whether the truck was being driven by its designated driver or a helper at the time of the mishap.
This incident comes close on the heels of the Hassan district accident in Mosale Hosahalli, where nine people were killed during a Ganeshotsava procession after a lorry lost control, raising fresh concerns about road safety and vehicle maintenance in Karnataka.
