Bengaluru: In a major push to improve civic infrastructure and road safety, Bengaluru Central City Corporation Commissioner Rajendra Cholan P. has directed officials to implement strict measures for pothole-free roads, elimination of accident-prone black spots, and encroachment-free footpaths.
During his inspection at the Corporation office, Cholan reviewed the state of roads and public facilities. He instructed engineers to act swiftly, especially in light of ongoing rains, to prevent mishaps caused by potholes and waterlogging.

Immediate Pothole Repairs
The Commissioner ordered that separate contractors be appointed for each division to ensure timely filling of potholes on major roads. He emphasized that no citizen complaint lodged through web or mobile apps should remain unresolved.

Model Roads and Beautification Drive
Cholan instructed executive engineers to identify key stretches, including CBD areas, TenderSure roads, white-topped roads, and high-density corridors, for development into model roads. Dedicated nodal officers will be made accountable for their upkeep.
The plan also includes beautification of metro pillars, landscaping with tree planting, installation of streetlights, and regular maintenance to ensure pedestrian and commuter safety.
Encroachment-Free Footpaths and Sanitation
The Commissioner directed officials to select one road every week for targeted clearance drives. Encroachers on footpaths will be served prior notice, followed by strict clearance operations and intensive cleaning. These drives will also involve monitoring of single-use plastics, with cross-departmental participation.
Present at the meeting were Joint Commissioner Ranganath, Chief Engineers Suguna and Vijaykumar Haridas, along with Executive Engineers and other officials.
