Bengaluru: Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has set a strict timeline for civic officials to make Bengaluru garbage-free, warning that accountability will be fixed if targets are not met.
Speaking after a review meeting with BBMP Commissioners, Joint Commissioners, the Police Commissioner, and Traffic Police, Shivakumar said that vehicles dumping waste along city borders and roads must be tracked and action initiated immediately. He instructed officials to submit a written status report on garbage clearance, road cleanliness, and public complaints by tomorrow.
“I have told Commissioners to conduct daily morning rounds and ensure real progress on the ground. No bogus bills will be entertained. Officials will be held directly responsible for quality of work. Do not blindly trust engineers — verify everything before signing,” Shivakumar said.
The Deputy CM added that garbage dumping at border points is being coordinated with the Deputy Commissioner and police to identify offenders. He further directed that the public must be taken into confidence and that clear timelines be fixed for closing garbage black spots.
On property tax collection, Shivakumar noted that BBMP has already achieved record collections and said that under the proposed new city corporations, the same efficiency must continue. “I will return in 3–4 days to review Bengaluru Corporation programs again,” he added.
