Bengaluru: As the Festival of Lights draws near, Bengaluru is glowing with Diwali spirit — streets buzzing with shoppers, markets packed to capacity, and traders working overtime to meet soaring demand for flowers, décor items, sweets, diyas, and firecrackers.
From early morning, major shopping hubs including KR Market, Chickpet, Gandhi Bazaar, Malleswaram, Vijayanagar, and Shivajinagar have been teeming with people buying festive essentials. Florists report record sales of marigold and chrysanthemum garlands, while vendors selling banana stems, mango leaves, and decorative torans say demand has nearly doubled.
Citywide Festive Rush
Bengaluru’s retail pulse has quickened ahead of the three-day Diwali celebration starting tomorrow. Streets are lined with temporary stalls selling pooja items, LED string lights, traditional diyas, and gift hampers.
Traffic around commercial zones like Commercial Street, Jayanagar 4th Block, and Avenue Road remained gridlocked for much of the day as thousands thronged local stores and supermarkets.
“People are shopping in full festive spirit this year. Compared to last Diwali, footfall and spending have increased significantly,” said Ramesh Gowda, a flower trader at KR Market.

Strong Sales Across Sectors
The festive buzz has spread beyond markets — sweet shops, jewellery showrooms, and apparel stores across Bengaluru have recorded brisk business, with retailers offering attractive discounts and festive combos. Electronics and home décor outlets too are witnessing a Diwali sales boom.
Meanwhile, firecracker stalls in city outskirts such as Hebbagodi, Yelahanka, and Kengeri have drawn large crowds. Vendors say eco-friendly fireworks and small gift boxes are in high demand this season.

Joy, Light, and Community Spirit
Despite higher prices for flowers and vegetables, the city’s festive enthusiasm remains undimmed. “Bengaluru’s cosmopolitan population celebrates Diwali in unique ways — from traditional poojas to modern rooftop parties, the spirit of togetherness shines everywhere,” said a local resident from Jayanagar.
The city’s glow this Diwali isn’t just from the lamps — it’s from the collective joy of a city celebrating culture, community, and commerce in full swing.
