Bengaluru: A woman Congress worker, Y. Vinoda, has lodged a formal complaint alleging a major ‘Vote Chori’ (voter fraud) operation in the Mahadevapura Assembly Constituency ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections.
In her complaint, Vinoda alleged that fake and ineligible voters were deliberately inserted into the electoral rolls through the involvement of unknown government officials and private individuals, raising concerns about a systematic attempt to manipulate the democratic process in a key Bengaluru constituency.
Taking cognisance of the allegations, the Whitefield Police Station has registered an FIR against unknown persons, invoking multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code including 405, 406, 409 (criminal breach of trust), 465, 466, 471, 474 (forgery and use of forged documents), 166 and 167 (public servant offences), and 171C, 171D, 171F (election-related offences).
The FIR also includes Section 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC, along with Section 129 of the Representation of the People Act, which pertains to illegal preparation or manipulation of electoral rolls.
The complaint has triggered fresh debate over the integrity of voter lists in rapidly growing urban constituencies like Mahadevapura, known for high migration and frequent allegations of electoral discrepancies.
