In a recent development, it has come to light that former Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy has been penalized with a fine of Rs 68,526 for his involvement in electricity theft. This incident has raised eyebrows and sparked discussions among the public.
The former Chief Minister, who held a prominent position in the state government, has been found guilty of unlawfully obtaining electricity without proper authorization. This act not only violates the law but also sets a poor example for the citizens of Bengaluru.
Under the guidance of DySP Anusha, Bescom Vigilance Cell, conducted a meticulous assessment of electricity consumption, specifically focusing on the amount of electricity utilized within a mere 10-minute timeframe. After calculating the usage over a span of two days, a comprehensive report was submitted on November 14. Consequently, the BESCOM department has now imposed a substantial fine of Rs 68,526.
The news of HD Kumaraswamy’s residence in JP Nagar, Bengaluru, illicitly tapping into electricity directly from a street lamp pole during Diwali festivities, garnered significant attention. In response, posters were promptly displayed in front of his residence.
Electricity theft is a serious offense that undermines the integrity of the power distribution system and puts an additional burden on honest consumers. It is essential for public figures, especially those who have held positions of power, to uphold the law and set a positive example for society.
The penalty imposed on Kumaraswamy serves as a reminder that no one is above the law, regardless of their status or influence. It is crucial for the authorities to take strict action against such violations to maintain the credibility of the legal system.
