BENGALURU:
In the latest example of how dangerous travelling on Bengaluru’s pothole-riddled roads can be, especially on the outskirts of the city, a senior journalist narrowly escaped serious injury to his left eye when a flying stone hit him while he was travelling on his bike on Sunday.
Senior journalist S Shyam Prasad, who works for Kannada news daily ‘Samyukta Karnataka’ and is also vice president of the Bangalore Press Club, had a fortuitous escape but his eye remains swollen.
Prasad tweeted: “Thanks to roads in such great condition. The stone breached the helmet and just missed my eye.”
BBMP official called, said sorry and promised to fix up the road. 🙏 https://t.co/9EmQTVILL2 pic.twitter.com/DcV7TkiGIS

Shyam Prasad said the incident happened when he was on his two-wheeler near the Byadrahalli police station. Though Prasad was wearing a helmet, a small stone that was kicked up by the wheel of another vehicle struck with such force that it went past the helmet and hit his left eye. To be on the safe side, he had it medically examined and was assured there was no permanent damage to his eye.
Shabby BWSSB work
Local residents say the work of laying a pipeline in the area by BWSSB has been left half-finished, due to which a lot of potholes have formed and numerous small pebbles are scattered all around. This increases the chances of serious accidents.
TBL complains to BBMP
TheBengaluruLive brought the incident top the notice of Vijay Kumar, BBMP Chief Engineer, Rajarajeshwari Nagar zone, who said he would inspect the spot and ensure that all the accumulated debris is cleared.
