Bengaluru: In a case of alleged insider theft, Sadashivanagar Police have arrested a 28-year-old cashier and his associate for stealing ₹91.76 lakh from a private company located on BEL Road.
The accused have been identified as Dhananjay, a resident of RT Nagar who was working as a cashier in the firm, and his friend Praveen, a native of Malavagoppa in Shivamogga district. Police have recovered ₹81.66 lakh from the accused.
According to the complaint registered at Sadashivanagar Police Station on February 20, the company owner stated that he had locked the main door of the office on the night of February 19. The next morning, neighbouring shop staff informed him that the office window glass had been broken.
Upon inspection, it was found that ₹91.76 lakh had been stolen from a total of ₹1.76 crore kept in a drawer inside the office. Initially, unknown persons were suspected.
During investigation, police traced one of the accused, Praveen, in Shivamogga and seized the car allegedly used in the crime. During interrogation, he reportedly confessed to his involvement and disclosed that an employee of the complainant’s office had assisted in executing the theft.
Police officials stated that the accused admitted to committing the crime with the intention of making quick money. Efforts are ongoing to trace two other absconding suspects, and further investigation is underway.
