Bengaluru: A major controversy has erupted around Ola Electric, after one of its senior engineers, Aravind K (38), allegedly died by suicide citing workplace harassment and unpaid salary. Aravind, who worked in the company’s Homologation Department, was found dead at his residence in Manjunathnagar, Chikkalasandra, on September 28, reportedly after consuming poison.
According to police sources, two days after his death, a sum of ₹17.46 lakh was credited to his bank account by the company. His family, suspecting foul play, questioned Ola officials but claimed they received no clear explanation. Subsequently, a 28-page death note was discovered from his apartment, reportedly detailing workplace pressure and harassment.
In the note, Aravind is said to have accused his superior, Head of Homologation Engineer Subrata Kumar Das, and company founder and CEO Bhavish Aggarwal of putting him under immense mental pressure while also withholding his salary and dues. His brother, Ashwin K, filed a complaint at the Subramanyapura Police Station, naming Das, Aggarwal, and Ola Electric as accused under Section 306 (Abetment of Suicide).

Ola Electric’s Clarification
In an official statement, Ola Electric expressed deep sorrow over the incident and denied all allegations of workplace harassment.
“We are deeply saddened by the unfortunate demise of our colleague Aravind, and our thoughts remain with his family during this difficult time,” a company spokesperson said.
The company stated that during his three-and-a-half-year tenure, Aravind never raised any complaint or grievance regarding harassment or employment conditions. It further clarified that Aravind’s role did not involve direct interaction with top management, including the promoter.
Ola added that it has challenged the FIR registration before the Karnataka High Court, and protective orders have been passed in favour of the company and its officials.
“To provide immediate support to the family, the company promptly facilitated the full and final settlement to his bank account. Ola Electric continues to cooperate with authorities and remains committed to maintaining a safe, respectful, and supportive workplace for all employees,” the statement read.
The case has triggered discussions on corporate stress, employee welfare, and accountability within India’s startup ecosystem, with several labour rights activists urging for a fair and transparent investigation into Aravind’s death.
