Cops seize drugs worth Rs 2.5 crore from accused, who was in India sans visa, passport
BENGALURU:
A foreign national who had resorted to an ingenious method of smuggling drugs stuffed in champagne bottles has been nabbed by the city police. According to police sources on Saturday, the drugs included 2,500 grams of MDMA (Ecstasy) crystal powder, and are worth Rs 2.5 crore.
A mobile phone and a 2-wheeler were also seized from the accused, identified as Dosu Khaleef (28), a citizen of Ivory Coast Khaleef used to peddle the drugs to students and businessmen at reputed partying spots. He was nabbed while selling drugs near Yusuf Masjid Road in HBR Layout. Investigations are on to ascertain the source of the drugs.
According to the cops, each champagne bottle was packed with narcotics worth Rs 60-Rs 70 lakh. The Govindapura police on the look-out for his accomplices.

According to the cops, Khaleef come to India three years ago on a tourist visa. However, he was not able to furnish any legal documents like a visa or passport to the investigators. He used to procure the drugs, in the form of powder from Goa. Khaleef was arrested for the same offence earlier in 2019 and 2020, but continued with his illicit activities after obtaining bail.
The police have also served a notice to Khaleef’s landlord for renting out his house without verifying the accused’s visa and passport.
