A 60-year-old physically challenged person from Bhadravati named Kodandamurthy has been arrested by the local police in RR Nagar for allegedly cheating a shopkeeper by giving him a counterfeit 500 rupee note in exchange for vegetables worth 35 rupees.
The incident came to light when the shopkeeper lodged a complaint at the RR Nagar police station. After investigating the matter, the police apprehended the accused Kodandamurthy and seized 30,000 rupees worth of counterfeit notes from his possession. The confiscated notes have been sent to the Reserve Bank of India for verification of their authenticity.
It has been revealed that Kodandamurthy has been involved in several cases of theft across various police stations in the city. The RR Nagar police have taken him into custody for a period of 10 days. They suspect that Kodandamurthy may have been involved in the production of counterfeit notes along with dealers, money changers, suppliers, and other individuals involved in the exchange business.
