Bengaluru: Bengaluru Police have arrested a 28-year-old bike-taxi driver for allegedly molesting a woman passenger during a ride from Church Street to her paying guest (PG) accommodation.
The accused, identified as Lokesh (28), a resident of Muniyappa Layout, Ullal, was taken into custody after the survivor posted details of the incident on social media, which caught the attention of the police’s cyber monitoring team.
Social Media Post Leads to Swift Police Action
According to officials, the incident took place on November 6, when the woman booked a bike taxi to return to her PG from Church Street. During the ride, the driver allegedly touched her inappropriately and refused to stop the vehicle when she demanded that he pull over.
The woman later uploaded a detailed post describing her ordeal on social media, stating that the driver’s actions were “intentional and predatory.”
The Social Media Monitoring Team of Bengaluru Police traced the post and immediately contacted the survivor for details. Following her complaint, a case was registered, and the accused Lokesh was arrested within 24 hours.
Victim Recorded the Incident on Her Mobile
The woman also recorded parts of the incident on her mobile phone, which helped investigators identify and trace the driver. Police sources said the video provided crucial evidence to establish the accused’s involvement.
“The prompt social media response mechanism helped ensure quick justice for the victim. The accused has been taken into custody, and further investigation is underway,” an officer said.
Police Emphasize Women’s Safety, Urge Reporting
Bengaluru Police have reiterated that women’s safety remains a top priority, urging citizens to report any form of harassment immediately via emergency helpline 112 or through the city police’s social media handles.
Authorities have also warned app-based cab and bike-taxi aggregators to ensure proper background verification of their drivers and strict compliance with transport safety regulations.
