Bengaluru: With New Year celebrations approaching, Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh has announced tightened safety measures across the city. Addressing reporters, he clarified that although New Year is still some days away, the police department has decided to begin preparations immediately due to the seriousness of recent national incidents.
“We did not hold the press meet yesterday because today we have an important inter-departmental coordination meeting scheduled for the afternoon. Officials from all relevant departments will be participating,” the Commissioner said.
Ahead of the joint meeting, Singh confirmed that instructions have already been issued to DCPs and the Joint Commissioner to conduct preparatory meetings in their respective divisions. “Our divisional officers have already completed their internal reviews. After that, we will hold our scheduled crime meeting, and then the inter-departmental session. It is appropriate that I brief the media only after these steps,” he stated.
Fire-Safety Measures Intensified After Goa Incident
Responding to questions about the recent incident in Goa, the Commissioner said the Bengaluru Police have proactively taken action.
“In the backdrop of the Goa incident, we have already contacted the Fire Department. We are issuing formal letters directing a comprehensive fire-safety audit of all establishments, especially those expecting large gatherings during New Year. No venue will be allowed to operate without complete compliance,” he added.
The Commissioner emphasised that public safety remains the top priority, and all departments—including fire, health, BBMP, excise, and traffic—will work together to ensure a safe New Year for Bengaluru.
