Bengaluru: A heavy spell of overnight rain in Bengaluru, accompanied by strong winds, wreaked havoc across several parts of the city, uprooting trees, damaging vehicles, and flooding roads. The downpour, which began late Tuesday evening, continued until Wednesday morning, leaving behind a trail of disruption.
In Rajajinagar 4th Block, a massive tree came crashing down around 3 am, crushing five cars, one Tata Ace goods vehicle, and four two-wheelers. The impact also damaged a residential compound, trapping families inside. Residents reported that the uprooted tree fell with a loud crash, blocking the main gate and causing panic among those inside.

In Chamrajpet’s Makkalakoota Road, another large tree fell, completely blocking the stretch. The fallen tree not only disrupted vehicular movement but also damaged a nearby bus shelter. Commuters and pedestrians struggled to navigate the route until civic workers began clearance operations.
Meanwhile, waterlogging in Electronics City near Veerasandra Signal added to the chaos, bringing traffic to a standstill. Even an ambulance was stranded on the flooded stretch, highlighting the severity of the situation.

Residents expressed frustration over the Greater Bengaluru Authority and Forest Department’s negligence in not attending to old and weakened trees despite repeated complaints. Many pointed out that such incidents occur every monsoon, raising concerns about urban safety and disaster preparedness.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued another rain alert for Bengaluru, warning residents of more heavy showers in the coming days.
