Bengaluru, Feb 21: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Urban Development Minister D.K. Shivakumar announced that ₹5,065 crore has been allocated for road development in Bengaluru, with instructions issued to complete all black topping and white topping works by the end of April.

Addressing the media at the GBA office, Shivakumar said that officials have been directed to ensure that all ongoing works are completed before the onset of the monsoon.

“In the last three months alone, ₹2,671 crore worth of road development works have commenced. This includes ₹420 crore for the Outer Ring Road under two packages, ₹1,000 crore across 82 ward-level packages, and ₹1,241 crore under 81 Karnataka government-funded packages,” he said.

He added that nearly 80% of the tenders have already been floated and that work progress must be monitored daily. Officials have been instructed to submit photographic updates of project progress and have been assigned clear accountability.

The Deputy CM also revealed that in the previous year, ₹694 crore was spent on 389 km of black-topped roads, while ₹1,700 crore was spent on white topping, totaling ₹2,394 crore.

Additionally, canal lining works funded by the World Bank to the tune of ₹1,600 crore have been tendered and initiated.

Shivakumar emphasized that projects should not be delayed for ceremonial reasons. “Do not wait for ministers or MLAs to attend foundation ceremonies. Start the work immediately and complete the formalities later,” he directed officials.

The announcements signal an aggressive push to upgrade Bengaluru’s road infrastructure ahead of the monsoon season, with the government aiming to improve durability, traffic flow, and overall urban mobility.
