Bengaluru: In a shocking incident that has stunned the city, a 60-year-old retired Navy captain and his 55-year-old wife, a practicing dentist, were allegedly stabbed to death by their own son inside their apartment in Vignananagar under the HAL police station limits.
The incident occurred around 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday at Adarsha Vista Apartment. The deceased have been identified as Naveen Chandra Bhatt, a retired naval officer, and Dr. Shyamala Bhatt, a dentist. Police have arrested their son, Rohan Bhatt, a software engineer, in connection with the crime.
According to preliminary investigation, a heated argument reportedly broke out between the parents and the son early in the morning. During the altercation, Rohan allegedly attacked both his parents with a knife, causing severe injuries. Neighbours rushed the couple to a nearby hospital after hearing about the incident, but both succumbed to their injuries around 10 a.m.
Police sources indicate that the accused has admitted during initial questioning that the crime was triggered by a family dispute. However, investigators are probing whether financial issues or other underlying reasons may have contributed to the brutal attack.
The couple’s daughter, who is currently in the United States, has been informed and is expected to arrive in Bengaluru. The bodies have been kept at Bowring Hospital, and further procedures, including post-mortem examination and funeral arrangements, will be carried out upon her arrival.
HAL police have taken Rohan Bhatt into custody and are continuing detailed interrogation to determine the exact motive behind the crime.
