Karnataka breaches dreaded 10K Covid mark
BENGALURU:
On Wednesday, Karnataka crossed the dreaded ’10,000’ Covid cases milestone with the addition of 397 new cases.
The day also saw 149 discharges and 14 deaths statewide. The government’s concern over the surge in cases in the state capital was borne out as Bengaluru accounted for a whopping 173 cases.
The state’s precise tallies are 10,118 positive cases, inclusive of 164 deaths and 6,151 discharges. As per the health department bulletin, out of 3,799 active cases, 3,687 are in designated hospitals and 112 are in ICUs.
The fatalities break-up for the day is: Bengaluru Urban 5, Ballari 4, Kalaburagi and Ramanagara 2 each, and Tumakuru one. The gender break-up is 10 males and 4 females, and barring 2, the other victims were above 50. Significantly, almost all the victims were suffering from ILI or SARI.

Among Wednesday’s cases, 75 are interstate returnees and 8 are overseas returnees. The others include contacts of positive cases and ILI/SARI patients.
Wednesday’s district-wise break-up is: Bengaluru Urban 173, Ballari 34, Kalaburagi and Ramanagara 22 each, Udupi 14, Yadgir 13, Dakshina Kannada and Dharwad 12 each, Koppal 11, Raichur and Uttara Kannada 9 each, Davanagere and Chikkaballapur 8 each, Mysuru and Bengaluru Rural 7 each, Gadag and Kolar 6 each, Bidar 5, Vijayapura 4, Shivamogga 3, Mandya, Chitradurga, Chamarajanagar and Kodagu 2 each, and Belagavi, Hassan and Tumakuru 1 each.
Bengaluru Urban continues to lead in positive cases with 1,678, followed by Kalaburagi with 1,254 and Udupi with 1,102. Udupi tops the discharges table with 978, followed by Kalaburagi with 829 and Yadgir with 567.
On the testing front, 5,39,247 samples have been tested to date, with 12,709 tested on Wednesday. Till date, 5,15,388 samples have come negative, of which 11,654 came negative on Wednesday.
