Bengaluru: Acting on repeated representations from local residents’ associations and the general public, civic authorities carried out a large-scale footpath encroachment clearance drive on Jyoti Nivas College Road in Koramangala, prioritising pedestrian safety and smooth traffic movement.
The operation covered a 1.1-kilometre stretch, where pedestrians were earlier forced to walk on the carriageway due to rampant encroachments, leading to traffic bottlenecks and safety concerns. As part of the drive, seven petty shops and five pushcarts obstructing the footpath were completely removed.
Officials said the action was taken in response to sustained public complaints highlighting inconvenience to pedestrians and disruption to vehicular traffic. The clearance is expected to significantly improve walkability and ease congestion along the busy stretch.

Operational Details
The drive was conducted under the supervision of executive engineer of the BTM Layout division, with full coordination from civic staff.
A total of 8 tractors, necessary machinery, and 40 workers were deployed for the operation. To ensure safety and law-and-order, 5 police personnel and 2 marshals were stationed on-site.
Authorities reiterated that encroachment of footpaths is illegal and warned that similar enforcement actions will continue across other parts of the city to protect pedestrian rights.
