Bengaluru: In a significant development in the rowdy-sheeter Biklu Shiva murder case, the 42nd ACJM Court in Bengaluru has remanded BJP MLA Byrathi Basavaraj to CID custody until February 21 for further investigation.
The legislator, who has been named as the fifth accused in the case, was produced before the judge at the latter’s residence in Koramangala on Sunday. Prior to the court appearance, he underwent medical examinations. Following cardiac-related observations during initial tests, he was referred to Jayadeva Hospital for further evaluation, based on recommendations from Bowring Hospital doctors.
Special Public Prosecutor Ashok Nayak informed the media that the medical reports indicate that the MLA’s health condition is stable and largely normal. The court, after reviewing the medical report and hearing submissions from the CID investigation team led by DySP Gautham, granted seven days of CID custody from February 15 to February 21.
The case pertains to the murder of rowdy-sheeter Biklu Shiva alias Shivaprakash, who was allegedly attacked by a group of 8-9 assailants near his residence close to Halasuru Lake on July 15. The attackers reportedly arrived in a car, assaulted him with deadly weapons, and fled the scene.
Based on a complaint filed by the victim’s mother Vijayalakshmi, alleging that the murder was linked to a land dispute, Bharatinagar Police registered an FIR against several individuals, including Jagadish, Kiran, Vimal, Anil, and MLA Byrathi Basavaraj.
The CID is currently probing the case, and further developments are awaited as the investigation continues.
