BENGALURU: A tragic incident unfolded in the early hours of May 10, when a software engineer was killed and another individual injured after being struck by a Hyundai Creta on Kanakapura Road at Vasantapura Cross. The victim, identified as Sanjay, was just 28 years old, while his friend Karthik sustained injuries in the incident.
The driver of the vehicle, Pratik, was initially thought to have been involved in an accident. However, a review of CCTV footage revealed the true nature of the events leading up to the collision, resulting in Pratik’s arrest.

According to reports, Sanjay and Karthik had stepped out of their residence for a late-night tea at a nearby roadside shop. During this time, Pratik, who was seated inside his car, requested Sanjay to purchase cigarettes for him. When Sanjay declined, an argument ensued. Although nearby shopkeepers intervened to defuse the situation, Pratik, still seething with anger, accelerated his vehicle and deliberately crashed into the motorcycle that Sanjay and Karthik were riding, killing Sanjay instantly and injuring Karthik.
In a remarkable act of compassion amidst their grief, Sanjay’s family chose to donate his organs. Sanjay, the son of Kamalamma and Narayana from Honnavar village in Hassan district, had been residing in Bengaluru. His family made the selfless decision to donate his organs to Aster RV Hospital in Bengaluru, ensuring that his legacy would continue to help others in need.
Authorities reported that Pratik and his wife were returning from a birthday party at the time of the incident. The investigation is ongoing, and the role of Pratik’s wife in the events leading up to the tragedy is yet to be determined.
