Bengaluru: BJP MLA Byrathi Basavaraj has been remanded to judicial custody until February 26 in connection with the Biklu Shiva murder case. The 42nd ACJM Court passed the order, sending the legislator to jail pending further proceedings.
The development marks a significant turn in the high-profile case, as the MLA had earlier denied any knowledge or involvement. However, statements recorded during the investigation and other material evidence appear to have influenced the court’s decision.
After remaining out of reach for some time, Byrathi Basavaraj eventually surrendered before the authorities. Despite the surrender, police formally arrested him and produced him before the court, which subsequently ordered judicial custody.
The case has drawn widespread political attention, with the remand of a sitting MLA intensifying the spotlight on alleged political links in the Shiva murder case. Further investigation is ongoing, and the matter is scheduled for review upon the completion of the judicial custody period on February 26.
