GADAG/BENGALURU: The tragedy struck the Bakale family in Gadag as three members of the family and the son of the vice-president of the Gadag-Betageri city municipal council, Sunanda Bakale, were brutally murdered in their home at Dasara Oni in Gadag. The victims included Karthik Bakale (27), son of municipal council vice-president Sunanda Prakash Bakale, Parashuram Hadimani (58), his wife Lakshmi (50), and daughter Akanksha (17).
As per police, Karthik’s wedding was scheduled for April 17, and the family had guests at home to celebrate the occasion. Akanksha, who had recently appeared for the SSLC exams, was sleeping in a bedroom on the first floor with her mother when the attackers struck. The Hadimani family, originally from Koppal, was caught off guard by the heinous crime.
The attackers left behind a knife in a drain in front of the house, indicating that there may have been at least four assailants involved in the gruesome act.
House owner Prakash Bakale recounted how they became suspicious of the door’s sound and immediately called the police. “Had we opened the door, we would have also been killed,” he said. The police, along with a dog squad and forensic team, swiftly responded to the scene.
Inspector General of Police (northern range) Vikash Kumar Vikas, who visited the site, assured that multiple teams have been formed to capture the culprits. He urged anyone with information to come forward and mentioned that they are reviewing CCTV footage. The motive behind the murders remains unclear, as no valuables were taken from the house.
The Superintendent of Police, B S Nemagouda, stated, “The family reported that the attack occurred between 2 am and 3 am, but the identities of the attackers remain unknown. However, we are actively working to apprehend them. The family mentioned that the attackers forcefully knocked on the door, but they refused to open it. Tragically, three individuals were found dead in a bedroom on the first floor. It is suspected that the attackers gained entry through the terrace.”
Parashuram Hadimani and his family resided in Bhagyanagar, Koppal, where he was involved in the hotel industry. Just the night before, the family had joyously celebrated Akanksha’s birthday. They had arrived in Gadag from Koppal on Wednesday and were scheduled to return on Friday.
The bodies were transported to GIMS hospital for autopsy, and Karthik’s final rites were performed in Gadag, while Parashuram and his family were laid to rest in Koppal.
