Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday reviewed the progress of Karnataka’s socio-educational and economic survey through a video conference with all district commissioners, stressing the need to accelerate survey operations and resolve technical glitches immediately.
Siddaramaiah noted that the survey, which began statewide, initially faced technical hurdles leading to slow progress. “All glitches have now been resolved, and officials must intensify the process to ensure every household is covered. The survey must be completed by October 7 without fail,” he directed.
Survey Targets and Workforce
The CM highlighted that Karnataka has 1,43,81,702 families to be surveyed, of which 2,76,016 families have been covered so far. A total of 1,20,728 enumerators have been deployed across 1,22,085 enumeration blocks.
“All teachers assigned must take the responsibility seriously and complete their duties on time. Any negligence will invite strict action,” Siddaramaiah warned. He assured that honorariums for teachers have already been released, urging both primary and high school teachers to actively participate.
Monitoring and Coordination
The CM emphasized that this is not just a Backward Classes Welfare Department initiative but a statewide exercise requiring close monitoring by DCs and CEOs of Zilla Panchayats. He instructed revenue, panchayat raj, and urban local body officials to work in coordination.
In districts where progress is slow, Siddaramaiah asked officials to make use of aided school teachers and maintain constant communication with district in-charge ministers. Each taluk must have a nodal officer appointed for supervision.
District administrations have also been asked to utilize local IT experts to resolve technical issues. In Bengaluru Urban, where around 50 lakh households are to be covered, the survey officially began today, with instructions to avoid leaving out any family.
Special Provisions for Remote Areas
For hilly regions, survey centers can be opened in schools to enable citizens to participate. Residents can also take part online through the designated app. In cases where households are locked, enumerators must revisit and complete the survey later, Siddaramaiah instructed.
Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar, Ministers H.K. Patil, Shivaraj Tangadagi, Krishna Byregowda, Rahim Khan, Byrathi Suresh, Madhu Bangarappa, and Bosesraju were present. Backward Classes Commission chairman Madhusudan Naik, Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh, CM’s political secretary Naseer Ahmed, legal advisor Ponnanna, economic advisor Basavaraj Rayareddy, Additional Chief Secretary Anjum Parvez, and senior officials also attended.
