Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah made surprise visits to two major government hospitals — Victoria Hospital and Vanivilas Hospital — in Bengaluru on Wednesday to directly inspect conditions and listen to grievances, especially from women patients.
During his unannounced inspection, the Chief Minister interacted with patients and enquired about medical services, food quality, and infrastructure. Several women, emotionally overwhelmed, reportedly broke down while sharing their healthcare struggles with him.
At Victoria Hospital, CM Siddaramaiah received complaints regarding bed shortages, inadequate facilities, and poor hygiene. Patients raised concerns over doctor negligence and delays in treatment, prompting the CM to assure corrective measures.

He then visited Vanivilas Hospital, where he inspected maternity wards and enquired about delivery care and overcrowding issues. The hospital handles over 40 deliveries a day, attracting women from across Karnataka and even neighbouring states, leading to severe congestion and infrastructural strain.
CM Siddaramaiah also inspected the quality of food being served, following earlier reports of poor standards. He instructed hospital officials to improve basic amenities, ensure dignified patient care, and maintain cleanliness and hygiene in both hospitals.

Sources said that repeated complaints from the public, media, and local representatives prompted the CM’s sudden visit, which was aimed at assessing real-time conditions without prior notice.
