Previous ‘single-day high’ deaths were 21
No deaths reported in Kodagu, Chitradurga, Chamarajanagar and Mandya districts.
BENGALURU:
The term ‘single-day high’ of Covid cases is fast turning redundant in Karnataka and Bengaluru as every day’s ‘record’ is overtaken the next day. On Saturday, the state saw a record 42 deaths of which Bengaluru alone accounted for 25. Karnataka’s death count from the coronavirus now stands at 335.
Saturday also reported the highest number of infections at 1,839, taking the state’s tally to 21,549.
As per the bulletin released by the Karnataka Health and Family Welfare Department, Bengaluru reported 24 deaths and Bengaluru Rural one death.
The other deaths in the state were: 6 in Bidar, 4 in Dakshina Kannada, 3 in Dharwad, 3 in Kalaburagi, and 1 in Hassan.
However, only one patient, a 32-year-old man from Hassan, died on Saturday. A woman from Kalaburagi, a woman from Dakshina Kannada, 2 men from, 2 men from Dharwad and one man from Bengaluru died on Friday. All the remaining (34 patients) had died earlier from June 23 onwards. Their infection reports were confirmed on Saturday.
Best example of delayed testing
The case of an 80-year-old female who was admitted to a hospital in Bengaluru Rural on June 20 and died on June 23 is a prime example of delayed testing. She had symptoms of fever, fatigue and breathlessness with hypertension, as well as SARI case, but her Covid test report came on Saturday, a fortnight later.
So far, 129 people have died of the coronavirus in Bengaluru alone, 34 in Bellary, 28 in Bidar, 25 in Kalaburagi, 20 in Dakshina Kannada, and 11 each in Dharwad and Vijayapura. No casualties were reported in Kodagu, Chitradurga, Chamarajanagar and Mandya districts.
