Karnataka inching towards 1,000-plus cases mark after months
BENGALURU:
After a gap of weeks, Bengaluru has crossed the 500-mark in new positive cases in the state. On Friday, the city reported 526 positive cases while the state reported 5 deaths overall.
Karnataka, including Bengaluru, is facing the alarming prospect of a second Covid wave, which is already evident in neighbouring Kerala and Maharashtra which are facing a surge in positive cases.
Govt jittery
Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar has appealed to people to maintain social distancing, to eschew large gatherings and to strictly follow Covid-19 safety guidelines.
On Friday, Karnataka reported 833 positive cases, close to the daily average of 1,000-plus cases that was being reported some months ago. Till date, Karnataka has a total tally of 9,58,417 Covid cases.
Five people died of the coronavirus in the state in the last 24 hours, and the cumulative death toll has risen to 12,386, the Health and Family Welfare Department said in a statement.
In Bengaluru, 526 people were infected and two succumbed to the disease.
Karnataka has 8,114 active cases, of which 125 are being treated in the ICUs of Covid-designated hospitals.
