Another tugboat with 9 crew is adrift, rescue ops on
BENGALURU:
One person died and four went missing after one tugboat capsized and another went adrift near Mangaluru on Saturday afternoon, while three persons were rescued by the navy.
As per sources, the capsized boat was found at Katipatna near Padubidri beach in Udupi district.
According to Principal Secretary (Revenue) Manjunatha Prasad, who is in charge of disaster management, two tugboats of MRPL (Mangalore Refineries), Tug Alliance and Tug Coromandel, went adrift and lost radio contact on Saturday. It was later reported that Tug Alliance had capsized, and three persons were rescued off the Udupi coast. One body has been recovered by the coastal police, while four people are missing.

“As far as Tug Coromandel with nine crew is concerned, INS Varaha spotted them at 10.30-11 pm and rescue efforts are on. As the sea is rough, a naval helicopter has been sought for the rescue operation,” Prasad said.
34 houses damaged, 4 dead
Meanwhile, cyclone Tauktae has caused severe damage to at least 34 houses and other public property in the coastal part of state.
As per a report by the Karnataka State Disaster Management Authority, 73 villages in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Kodagu, Shivamogga, Chikkamagalur and Hassan have been affected by the cyclone.

As per a report by the Karnataka State Disaster Management Authority, 73 villages in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Kodagu, Shivamogga, Chikkamagalur and Hassan have been affected by the cyclone.
Among the four deaths reported so far, one each is from Uttara Kannada, Udupi, Chikkamagalur and Shivamogga, officials said.
A total of 318 people have been evacuated so far, and 298 people are currently taking shelter in 11 relief camps. Damage has been caused to 112 houses, 139 poles, 22 transformers and 4 hectares of horticulture crops.
