Mr. Daradahalli Byregowda Chandre Gowda, a prominent figure in State Politics, passed away at his residence in Daradahalli, Mudigere Taluk, Chickmagalur District in the early hours of Tuesday.
At the age of 87, Mr. D B Chandre Gowda had the distinction of representing all four Houses of Democracy, making him a rare personality in State Politics.
During his political career, Mr. Gowda served as a Member of the State Legislative Assembly for three terms. He represented the Janata Dal party and the Thirthalli Legislative Assembly Constituency from 1983 to 1985. He later contested from the same constituency on a Janata Dal ticket and served as a Member of the House from 1989 to 1994. In 1999, he entered the State Legislative Assembly from Sringeri Constituency on a Congress ticket.
Additionally, Mr. Gowda served as a Member of the State Legislative Council from 1978 to 1983, representing the Indian National Congress. In 1983, he left the Congress party to join the Karnataka Kranti Ranga.


Mr. Chandre Gowda also had an illustrious career at the national level. He served as a Member of Parliament, both in the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. In 1971 and 1977, he contested elections to the Lok Sabha from the Chickmagalur Parliamentary Constituency on a Congress ticket. In 1978, he resigned to make way for former Prime Minister Ms. Indira Gandhi to contest from the same constituency, thus playing a crucial role in her political journey. In 2009, he contested from the Bangalore North Parliamentary Constituency and entered the Lok Sabha as a representative of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Mr. Chandre Gowda was a Member of the Rajya Sabha in 1986, representing the Janata Party, which later transformed into the Janata Dal.
Furthermore, Mr. Chandre Gowda served as the Speaker of the State Legislative Assembly from 1983 to 1985. During his tenure, he also held the position of Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs. Additionally, he served as the Leader of the Opposition in the State Legislative Assembly.
It is worth noting that Mr. Chandre Gowda has had an illustrious political career, having represented various parties such as the Praja Socialist Party, Karnataka Kranti Ranga, Janata Party, Janata Dal, Indian National Congress, and Bharatiya Janata Party. This remarkable feat in the political history of Karnataka sets him apart.
