BENGALURU: In a major push to strengthen Bengaluru’s water management, the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) is rolling out its new enforcement initiative, ‘Blue Force’, aimed at tackling water leakage, illegal water lines, and unauthorised sewage connections across the city.
Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar will formally inaugurate the initiative on Tuesday, November 19, BWSSB Chairman Ram Prasath Manohar announced.
16 ‘Blue Force’ Teams to Begin Ground Operation This Week
BWSSB has constituted 16 dedicated Blue Force teams—one in each subdivision.
These three-member squads will begin their field operations this week and will focus on:
- Tracing illegal and bypass connections,
- Preventing pipeline tampering,
- Reducing revenue loss caused by unauthorised consumption.
Robotics & AI to Support Enforcement
To strengthen leak detection and speed up repairs, BWSSB has tied up with a leading robotics firm to deploy robotic and AI-driven inspection technology.
This system will:
- Pinpoint underground leakages,
- Inspect internal pipeline defects without excavation,
- Digitally map the water network,
- Reduce unnecessary road-cutting and speed up complaint resolution.
Targeting Bengaluru’s 28% Water Loss
Bengaluru currently loses nearly 28% of its water due to leakages and illegal connections.
The combination of Blue Force enforcement teams and advanced robotic technology aims to substantially bring down this loss and ensure equitable distribution of water across the city.
