Family, friends, volunteers chip in
BENGALURU:
In an effort to help the needy during the nationwide lockdown, Desi Masala, a restaurant in Banaswadi and a venture of Global Wings, began by distributing 700 meals a day in the neighbourhood. This has now touched 10,000+ meals a day. In less than 10 days, the Desi Masala team has delivered around 2,00,000 free meals.
The team is led by Sachin Jain, Sandeep Jain and Manish Jain.
The team has utilized the Desi Masala restaurant space to cook for the cause, while family and friends have volunteered to pack the meals. As word spread, volunteers have joined the team via WhatsApp groups.
The meals have been extended to slum dwellers, orphanages, daily wage workers, migrant labour, BBMP workers and old age homes.
Sandeep Jain, director at the Desi Masala group, says, “We were trying to help people around us, but little did we know that this family initiative will become huge enough to feed 10,000 people a day. Without the help of our team and volunteers, this task would not have been possible.”
Manish Jain, director at the Desi Masala group, says, “Nothing is more peaceful then going back home after being blessed by numerous people whom you barely know.”
