Bengaluru, Feb 9: Deputy Chief Minister and Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President D.K. Shivakumar on Monday confirmed that he will be travelling to Delhi to meet senior Congress leaders who have called him for discussions.
Addressing mediapersons at Vidhana Soudha, Shivakumar said his Delhi visit would involve both political engagements and meetings with Union ministers and legal experts.
“I am meeting Congress leaders who have asked me to come to Delhi. Along with political discussions, I will also be meeting the Union Minister for Jal Shakti and legal experts during my visit,” Shivakumar said.
“Cannot Reveal Names of Leaders”
When asked whether Rahul Gandhi had specifically called him to Delhi and to name the leaders he would be meeting, Shivakumar declined to disclose details.
“I cannot reveal the names of everyone I am meeting. Why so much curiosity?” he said, adding that his visit was part of his responsibilities within the party.
“I am not just the Deputy Chief Minister; I am also the KPCC President. On March 10, I will complete six years as KPCC chief. Meeting our MPs and senior leaders is part of my duty. Whenever I meet them, I share our concerns, challenges, aspirations and feedback,” he said.
CM’s Permission for Delhi Visit
Responding to questions on travelling to Delhi amid budget-related preparatory meetings of his departments, Shivakumar clarified that he would take the Chief Minister’s consent.
“I will take the Chief Minister’s permission before leaving. The Chief Minister himself chairs the Irrigation Department. Officials will attend the meeting scheduled for Tuesday. The Chief Minister has deeper knowledge of irrigation projects than anyone else,” he said.
He added that officials had already briefed him on the Mekedatu project, indicating that administrative work would continue uninterrupted during his absence.
