Bengaluru, February 19: Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has written to the State Election Commission urging it to conduct street-wise and house-wise mapping to rectify alleged large-scale discrepancies in the electoral rolls across Greater Bengaluru.
In his letter, the DCM highlighted multiple irregularities in the voter list, including members of the same family being assigned to different polling booths and wards, incorrect house numbers and road names, duplication of voter names, and deletion of eligible voters. He also pointed out that in certain streets, entire groups of voters were reportedly missing from the electoral rolls.
Shivakumar stated that these errors do not appear to be accidental and may have been carried out systematically, creating confusion among voters, Booth Level Officers (BLOs), and political parties. He warned that such discrepancies could undermine the credibility and transparency of the electoral process.
Calling for immediate corrective action, the DCM urged the Election Commission to undertake a comprehensive revision drive through detailed street-wise and house-wise mapping. He recommended that every polling booth jurisdiction be thoroughly surveyed, covering all streets, houses and eligible voters.
According to him, such a structured verification process would help eliminate duplicate or fake entries and re-include voters who may have been wrongly deleted from the list. He further stressed that special revision measures must be undertaken to ensure that no eligible voter is deprived of their right to vote in upcoming elections.
The letter signals heightened political focus on electoral roll accuracy ahead of civic and local body polls in Greater Bengaluru.
