Bengaluru: Bengaluru marked Sir M. Vishveshvaraiah Jayanti with a grand celebration of Engineers’ Day, where outstanding professionals were conferred with the prestigious Sir M. Vishveshvaraiah Award for their service to the city’s infrastructure and development.
Speaking at the event held at Basava Auditorium, Naukarara Bhavana, Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao said that engineers need not seek recognition. “If engineers work diligently and with sincerity, public appreciation will come naturally. Even under criticism or pressure, their work stands as proof of integrity and excellence,” he remarked while inaugurating the event organized by the GBA Officers and Employees Welfare Association.
Rao highlighted the critical role engineers have played in shaping Bengaluru’s urban infrastructure, especially during times of crisis. “Their contribution towards quality civic services and infrastructure deserves to be celebrated today,” he added.

Former Additional Chief Secretary N. Manjunatha Prasad, recalling his tenure as BBMP Commissioner in 2016, narrated how engineers resolved a major flooding crisis in Bommanahalli overnight. He also reflected on the life of Bharat Ratna Sir M. Vishveshvaraiah, who rose from humble beginnings to become a visionary leader by valuing collective consultation and planning.
