Wife Meghana breaks down during cremation
BENGALURU:
The final rites of actor Chiranjeevi Sarja, who died on Sunday, were performed at his brother Dhruva’s farmhouse on Kanakapura Road.
The body was cremated at 5 pm at ‘Brundavan’ on Kanakapura Road in the presence of family and friends. Chiranjeevi’s final journey was telecast live for thousands of his fans.
The family was first inclined to have the last rites performed at their native place in Tumakuru district. Later, it was decided to cremate him in the Kanakapura farmhouse. The farmhouse was a favourite place of relaxation for Chiranjeevi Sarja.
The actor suffered a massive heart attack on Sunday noon and breathed his last at Sagar Apollo Hospital in Jayanagar. His body was kept for public viewing at their residence in Basavangudi.
Thousands of fans and all of Sandalwood paid their last respects before the body was shifted to the farmhouse.
Wife Meghana, who is in the second trimester of her pregnancy, was inconsolable and broke down several times during the cremation.
All the rituals were taken care of by his brother Dhruva Sarja, uncle Arjuna Sarja, and in-laws Sundar Raj and Pramila Joshai. The actor’s close friends and well-wishers were present at the farmhouse for the last rites.
Several actors like Shivaraj Kumar, Raghavendra Rajkumar, Puneeth Rajkumar, Yash, Upendra, Sudeep, Darshan, Ganesh, Prajwal Devaraj, Sadhu Kokila, Chethan, Tara, Sudharani, Rockline Venkatesh, Munirathna and Gurukiran, and other celebrities, turned up at his Basavangudi residence to pay their last respects.
Politicians like H D Kumaraswamy and Karnataka State Congress President D K Shivakumar, Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa’s son BY Vijayendra also paid tribute to the late actor.
