New South Runway is fully operational
BENGALURU:
Recently, the Bengaluru international airport commenced operations on the new South Runway with the first take-off. On Thursday, the South Runway marked its first landing with the arrival of Spice Jet flight SG497.
With all regulatory clearances in place, the South Runway is equipped to handle both arrivals and departures. This makes the Bengaluru international airport the first in the country to operate independent parallel runways, enabling aircraft to land or take off simultaneously on both runways.
The new runway will further bolster the capacity of the airport as a major gateway to India. BIAL is also working with various stakeholders on a rehabilitation project of the North Runway.
