Bengaluru: Former Chickpet MLA and senior Congress leader R.V. Devaraj (67) passed away on Sunday after suffering a massive heart attack during a visit to Chamundi Hill in Mysuru.

According to sources, Devaraj developed sudden chest pain while at the hill temple. He was immediately rushed to Apollo Hospital, Mysuru, where initial treatment was provided. As his condition remained critical, doctors advised shifting him to the Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences, Mysuru.

However, Devaraj breathed his last on the way to Jayadeva Hospital, despite continuous medical efforts to revive him.

Devaraj, a prominent Congress figure in Bengaluru’s Chickpet constituency, had served multiple terms as MLA and was known for his longstanding connection with traders and local communities.

Further arrangements for the final rites will be announced by the family and party leadership.
