Bengaluru: In a major push towards decentralised solid waste management, Bengaluru South City Corporation Commissioner K.N. Ramesh has announced plans to replicate the Koramangala Kasa-Rasa waste processing unit model across all Assembly constituencies under the corporation’s jurisdiction.
The Commissioner conducted an all-day inspection across Bengaluru South, including a detailed review of the Koramangala Kasa-Rasa Unit, which has emerged as a benchmark facility for effective segregation, processing, and disposal of municipal waste.
During the inspection, Ramesh reviewed operations at the biomethanisation plant, where wet waste is processed into energy and compost. Officials briefed him on waste-to-resource methods being followed at the facility, highlighting reduced landfill dependency and improved environmental outcomes.

He also inspected the dry waste collection and processing unit, examining records related to the disposal of discarded mattresses, footwear, damaged electronic equipment, plastic bottles, and other non-biodegradable materials. Emphasis was laid on transparent documentation and responsible recycling practices.
Local Residents Applaud Kas-Rasa Operations
Residents in the Koramangala area expressed satisfaction with the unit’s functioning, particularly the scientific handling of wet and dry waste, odour control measures, and reduced garbage accumulation. Taking note of public feedback, the Commissioner stated that similar Kas-Rasa units will be established in all Assembly constituencies to ensure uniform waste management standards across the city.
Hulimavu Road Work & Lake Development Inspected
As part of the inspection drive, Ramesh also reviewed the asphalting works on Hulimavu Main Road, instructing engineers to ensure proper lane markings and zebra crossings to improve commuter safety.
Additionally, the Hulimavu Lake rejuvenation works were inspected. The Commissioner directed officials to ensure that sewage and stormwater drains do not contaminate lake water, stressing the importance of protecting aquatic life. He also issued instructions for adequate fencing, construction of retaining walls, and preventive measures against encroachment around the lake perimeter.
Senior engineering officials, including Chief Engineer K.V. Ravi and executive engineers, were present during the inspection.
