Company has commissioned 49 CNG stations, plans 100 more in Bengaluru Rural and Urban
BENGALURU:
GAIL Gas is working towards creating a ‘green’ ecosystem of CNG stations in Bengaluru Rural and Urban districts. The company has already commissioned 49 CNG stations, out of which 31 are operational and the remaining 18 are expected to become operational by September. GAIL Gas has a plan to set up an additional 100 CNG stations in the next 2-3 years in Bengaluru Rural and Urban districts.
There is a growing inclination towards CNG vehicles due to cost efficiency and environment- friendliness. As an example, LCM Logistics Pvt Ltd has opted for green fuel-run vehicles for the company. A fleet of 18 CNG Tata LCVs and 20 CNG Tata ACEs was inducted in their fleet on Friday. The keys to the CNG vehicles were handed over by Vivek Wathodkar, Chief General Manger, GAIL Gas, to Subbaiah TM and Subramanya BT, Directors of LCM Logistics, in the presence of V Shivashankar, General Manager-Marketing, GAIL Gas, Sandeep Choudhary, Deputy General Manager, LCV Division, Tata Motors, and officials of GAIL Gas, Tata Motors and Prerana Motors.
Cheaper and greener
Keeping in view the tough phase for the transport sector, wherein operational costs are surging day by day with the hike in petrol and diesel prices, CNG is gaining momentum as the fuel of choice. CNG is proving to be a panacea for the transport industry, as it is more economical and environment-friendly than diesel. At the current CNG price of Rs 55/kg, a transporter can save around 42% in the fuel bill, which is quite substantial. The cost difference between diesel and CNG vehicles has reduced drastically in the BS-VI regime – in fact, in some cases CNG vehicles are cheaper than diesel vehicles. CNG is the most preferred fuel in Delhi- NCR due to its economical and environment-friendly aspects. It is also the preferred fuel for commercial vehicles in the transport segment.
