GAIL Gas opens 100th CNG Station in Bengaluru

GAIL Gas Limited, a prominent City Gas Distribution (CGD) Company, achieved a remarkable feat today as it unveiled its 100th Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) station in Makali Village on Tumkuru Road. The inauguration ceremony was graced by Shri Sandeep Kumar Gupta, Chairman and Managing Director of GAIL (India) Limited, as well as the Chairman of GAIL Gas.
The event highlighted the company’s steadfast dedication to advancing sustainable mobility and reducing carbon emissions through remote access technology.
Among those present were Shri Goutom Chakraborty, CEO of GAIL Gas, along with other Directors and senior officials.
GAIL Gas has extended its CNG network to encompass 100 stations in Bengaluru, underscoring the company’s enduring commitment to cultivating a cleaner and greener environment.
The network includes a mix of Company Owned Company Operated CNG Stations, Dealer Owned Dealer Operated Stations, and Retail Outlets in collaboration with Oil Marketing Companies. These strategic partnerships strengthen the availability of CNG throughout the city. Each station boasts state-of-the-art facilities, ensuring convenient and efficient refueling for CNG-powered vehicles. This achievement signifies a pivotal stride in enhancing the accessibility of clean and cost-effective fuel alternatives for Bengaluru’s residents.

2000 Kms Pipeline laid
GAIL Gas has laid an extensive network of approximately 2000 Kms of Pipeline in Bengaluru, with CNG availability spanning prominent areas such as Lalbaugh, KR Puram, Koramangala, JP Nagar, KH Road, Vijaynagar, Thannisandra, Mysore Road, Attibele, Yelahanka, HSR Layout, Whitefield, Sarjapur, Banasankari, Rajarajeshwari Nagar, Peenya, Hoskote, Airport Road, Baglur, Nelamangla, Tumkur Road, Electronic City, Hosur Road, Jigni, and Bommasandra.
The company envisions further expansion, aiming to establish a network of 200 CNG stations in Bengaluru. Currently, GAIL Gas records a daily CNG sale of 1.56 lakh kg in the geographical area. Notably, the company introduced CNG Promotional Schemes in 2021 and 2022 to bolster CNG Sales.
Bengaluru boasts over 46,305 registered CNG vehicles, and the use of CNG as an intercity fuel has gained approval, with neighboring cities around Bengaluru also offering CNG availability. The Tourist CNG Corridor, including cities like Mysore, Hosur, Tumkur, Ramanagar, Hyderabad, and Dakshin Kannada (GAIL Gas), reflects the growing reach and impact of CNG as a cleaner transportation solution.

CNG vehicle offers better cost economy as compared to other competitive fuels like Petrol and Diesel. At current price of Petrol and Diesel prevailing in Bengaluru, CNG Cars offer around 37% and 23% savings as compared to its Petrol and Diesel variant respectively. Further, CNG passenger autos offer saving of around 45% as compared to their Petrol Variant.
Shri Hirdesh Kumar, Chief General Manager, GAIL GAS Bengaluru expressed his gratitude to the State Government of Karnataka, which extended all out support to GAIL GAS and made the Bengaluru CGD Project a splendid success.
Beside the Government of Karnataka in the recent Budget announced that a City Gas Distribution Policy will be developed to facilitate the distribution network of natural gas in the State, which will in turn increase PNG household connectivity and CNG Stations in the State. This will be a major step towards clean air initiative under State Action Plan on Air Pollution.
