Belagavi/Bengaluru: Karnataka Home Minister Dr. G. Parameshwara on Wednesday dismissed speculation about a major restructuring of the Bengaluru Police Commissionerate. He categorically stated that there is no proposal under consideration to create a second Police Commissioner post by dividing the existing commissionerate into two separate units.
Responding to a Calling Attention Notice moved by MLC Dr. K. Govindaraju, the Home Minister clarified in a written statement that the government has not initiated any file or discussion regarding the creation of an additional Commissioner post.
Dr. Parameshwara noted that the government has already undertaken a major governance reform by enforcing the Greater Bengaluru Governance Act, 2024, which came into effect on May 15, 2025. Under this Act, the BBMP jurisdiction was reorganised into five new municipal corporations—
• Bengaluru Central
• Bengaluru South
• Bengaluru East
• Bengaluru West
• Bengaluru North
This restructuring, he said, was based on population growth, density, economic activity, land use changes, and the need for improved civic administration.
The Minister acknowledged that rapid urbanisation, migration for jobs, education and business, and increased mobility have intensified policing challenges in Bengaluru. Crimes such as robbery, house burglary, crimes against women and children, cybercrime, vehicle theft, road accidents, and wheeling menace are rising, he noted.
However, despite these rising crime patterns and the administrative reorganisation under the Greater Bengaluru Authority, the Home Minister clarified that no proposal is currently being examined to bifurcate the Bengaluru Police Commissionerate or appoint a second Police Commissioner.
MLC Dr. Govindaraju had urged the government to consider such restructuring to improve policing efficiency, strengthen investigation quality, and ensure faster arrest and prosecution of offenders. But the Home Minister reiterated that the matter is not under discussion at the moment.
