Belagavi, February 19: The 394th birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was celebrated with great enthusiasm by the Sakal Maratha Samaj (18 Pagad Jati and 12 Balutedar) at Shivaji Udyan in Belagavi. A grand tribute and felicitation programme was organised, drawing large participation from members of the Maratha community and Marathi-speaking residents of the region.
Prominent community leaders including coordinator, BJP Leader Kiran Jadhav, Adv. Amar Yelurkar, Gunwant Patil, Sagar Patil, H.B.P. Shankar Babali Maharaj, Sunil Bokade, Sunil Jadhav, Rajan Jadhav, Mahadev Patil, Women’s Wing Chief Renu Killekar, Bhatkhande, Vipul Jadhav and Sachin Patil were present, along with numerous community members.
During the event, coordinator Kiran Jadhav urged the government to ensure that official Shiv Jayanti celebrations in Belagavi are conducted in consultation with representatives of the Maratha community, given the significant presence of Maratha and Marathi-speaking citizens in the region.

Responding to the demand, the Belagavi Deputy Commissioner reportedly assured that from next year onwards, the government would celebrate Shiv Jayanti on February 19 in coordination with representatives of the Maratha community.
Women’s Wing Chief Renu Killekar, in her address, emphasised the need to adopt the ideals and values of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in daily life. She stated that true celebration of Shiv Jayanti lies in practicing his principles.
Coordinator Gunwant Patil called for the presence of Shivaji’s biography in every household and urged citizens to draw inspiration from the life and leadership of the Maratha king in every aspect of life.
The programme concluded with chants praising Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, as community leaders and participants expressed pride in the legacy of the iconic ruler.
