Expecting huge tax evasion, the GST officials conducted a major crackdown on jewellers and traders evading taxes in cities Chickpete area.
Nearly 23 shops and houses were raided and 60 kg gold ornaments were seized. GST officials have estimated gold value of worth Rs 12 crore, source said.
According to sources, the gold ornaments were traded avoiding tax. The raid was conducted after GST department had received a tip off from various agencies that few traders where into the active trading to avoid taxes.
