Bengaluru: For the last two days, Bengaluru has witnessed heavy evening showers, leaving several arterial and residential roads flooded. From KR Market, Town Hall, MG Road, Residency Road, Brigade Road, Chandralayout, Hosur Road, Shantinagar BMTC Depot, JP Nagar, Mysuru Road till Kengeri, multiple stretches have turned into virtual streams with knee-deep water, severely disrupting traffic.
Flooded Roads, Rising Accidents Risk
Traffic police have advised motorists and two-wheeler riders to exercise caution as waterlogging hides dangerous potholes, increasing the risk of accidents and vehicle breakdowns. Several scooters and bikes were seen stalled mid-road after water seeped into silencers. Pedestrians too were left struggling to wade through flooded stretches.

Locals alleged BBMP’s negligence in desilting drains and clearing silt deposits ahead of monsoon as the primary reason for the crisis. Footpaths and stormwater drains remain clogged with garbage, blocking smooth water flow and resulting in severe waterlogging within just 20 minutes of rain.
Meteorological Department Warning
The Karnataka State Weather Department has forecast more rain for Bengaluru and South Interior Karnataka over the next two to three days, particularly in the evenings. Citizens have been urged to carry umbrellas, raincoats, and avoid venturing out unless necessary.

Citizens’ Anguish
Angry commuters lashed out at civic authorities:
“Every monsoon we face the same problem. Roads vanish under water, potholes become invisible, and ambulances too struggle to move. BBMP wakes up only after tragedies,” a commuter at Shantinagar said.
