Bengaluru: In a serious aviation security breach, high-value helicopter components have been stolen in Bengaluru, raising concerns over safety and oversight in aircraft maintenance operations. The helicopter belongs to Smart Wings Aviation Private Limited, while its maintenance had been outsourced to a private firm, Indocopter.
According to the complaint, the dual control set system of the helicopter — a critical flight component — has been stolen, with the company suspecting the possible involvement of staff from the maintenance agency that was responsible for servicing the aircraft.
Following the incident, a formal complaint has been registered at the Whitefield Police Station, and police have launched an investigation into the theft. Officers are examining maintenance records and questioning personnel linked to the aircraft’s upkeep.

Smart Wings Aviation has expressed serious concern over the theft of spare parts worth several lakhs of rupees, stating in its complaint that the incident is not merely a financial loss but also poses a potential risk to aviation safety and security.
Aviation experts note that the theft of critical helicopter components can have grave implications for flight safety, and have stressed the need for stringent monitoring of maintenance contractors and hangar security.
Police said further details will emerge once the investigation progresses.
